Are you a Walker, Jogger or Sprinter?

Over the last 12 years of training clients, I have realized that there are three types of people….. 1) Walker 2) Jogger and 3) Sprinter.

I am not literally talking about walking, jogging and sprinting, but what I am taking about is the fire, motivation and desire behind the person that is working toward their fitness goals. Here’s what I mean…….

A WALKER is someone who has excuses for everything and typically these individuals never reach their fitness goals. For example……

- They don’t want to waste their perfectly good junk (yes, I said junk!) that they still have in their cupboards when they start their weight loss journey. (TRUTH IS: Junk food will only cost you more money in the end – medical bills and larger size clothes are not any cheaper.)

- They never have time (TRUTH IS: everyone has the same amount of time in the day. It all comes down to how you manage it and set priorities.)

- They always say “I can’t”. (TRUTH IS: If you say you can’t, then you are probably right and if you say you can, you are right also.)

- They feel that eating and exercising properly will get in way of their social life. (TRUTH IS: The word social is defined as relating to the way in which people in groups behave and interact; therefore, if you don’t want to be out of shape or overweight like your friend, then you can’t continue doing what they do.)

A JOGGER is someone who wants to achieve their fitness goals but they are undecided, which creates frustration.

Imagine standing in a check out isle at a grocery store. You just finished shopping for your healthy food and the line is taking forever. This is where the confusion comes in…. Should you stay in the line and pay for your healthy foods or be impatient and exit the line because you do not want to wait? These individuals typically see enough results to keep them going but not enough to satisfy their needs. They can become sprinters by simply making a decision. If you decide to stay in the line and be patient, then your level of frustration will go away. These individuals typically……..

- Still allow temptations to affect them. They will have a bag of chips, a slice of cake or a treat with a grilled chicken breast. (TRUTH IS: adding items like this every now and then will add up and you will get less results.)

- Try to convince themselves that they can do it, but people around them are telling them that it is not possible. (TRUTH IS: This makes you confused. You can do anything you put your mind to. People who say you can not do it, are the ones that do not want you to succeed because they know that they can’t do it.)

A SPRINTER is someone who will achieve their fitness goals fast. These individuals……

- Give 100% all of the time.

- See faster results, which keeps them motivated.

- Will follow people who are actually achieving results.

- Are hungry to learn more to keep moving forward.

- They have a plan of attack for every situation.

- Have one problem ……They complain about the joggers and walkers because they complain too much.

So which categorie do you fall in? Leave a comment below and let me know what you are doing right now to work towards your fitness goals.

Top 10 Reasons People Don’t Lose Weight

Hey, Joe Howard here….

I want to reveal to you the top ten reasons why people don’t lose weight. So without further ado…..Here are the top ten reasons.

1. You don’t listen to the experts. (This is one of my biggest frustrations!) For example: Why would you pay me money and not listen to what I have to say. Believe me, your old methods did not work and that is why you came to see me. Therefore, stop doing things your way and try the proven method. You may actually like the outcome.

2. You listen to TV commercials that sucker you into thinking “you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want and still lose weight.” (If it was that simple, don’t you think everyone would be skinny?) There is only one solution to weight loss….eat balanced diet of protein carbs and fat.

3. You have fear. Most of you have a fear of failure because you have tried to lose weight in the past, but have failed many times. This is why you need to turn to an expert for support. Let use show you how to face failure….I personally believe failure is the key to success.

4. You make excuses. “I don’t have time” or “I just don’t have money” Believe me, I have heard them all. You just need to change your mindset. Look at it this way: If you were a diabetic would you skip your insulin shots or not eat just because you were too busy? No, because you would have immediate consequences. Don’t let little mistakes add up to be a bid consequence down the road.

5. You do not show up for your scheduled workout session. If you are sick and you schedule a doctors appointment, do you happen to just forget about your appointment and do you think you will get any better by not showing up?

6. You do not log your foods. True fact: sixty percent of my new clients do not even eat enough calories throughout the day. If you do not eat enough calories you will lose muscle mass and put your body into starvation mode, which will create a fat storing body. Please do not use the “dog ate my food log” excuse.

7. You expect a transformation over night. What are you thinking? It is easier to gain weight then to lose weight. So if you put your weight on over a period of two years, don’t expect it to come off in two weeks. I’m not saying that you can’t lose weight fast.  Don’t worry I will help you do it the right way.

8. You try to take the magic pill. There is no such thing! Have you ever studied a weight loss pill container. Let me save you some time…..watch this video.

9. You save your old clothes. At Fitness Professionals 360 we have a rule: When you lose weight you must get rid of your big clothes. There is no saving them for a “just in case scenario”. If you save big clothes, you are basically telling yourself that you will be going back to your old weight. Get rid of the clothes and go shopping.

10. You program your mind the wrong way. The other day I asked a client what her goal was and she stated to lose her stomach. She went on to state that she could not find any jeans that fit her right. They were typically tight around the waist and too big around her butt. Just then another client stated she should try pants that have an elastic band around the waste. This is when I had to step in. See when you are over weight you have a different mindset then someone who is fit; therefore, my thought was she should continue wearing the pants that felt uncomfortable around the waste. This would make her aware of her weight and the choices she made during her weight loss journey.

There you have it. The top ten reasons people do not lose weight. Make sure to leave a comment below.

Planning For Success – Part 1

Do you plan for success?   I personally think planning is the key to success.  I take time every night to plan out my next day.  First I take a look at my schedule. If I have clients all day long (which as you all know, I do) then I must pick the right foods to get me through the day.

What do you think would happen if I did not plan ahead?  I would probably skip my meals or grab something unhealthy to eat.

As we all know, this would not result in a fit body.  I would actually end up losing muscle mass, gaining body fat, decreasing my metabolism, and spending more money.

This is exactly why I plan for success.

Listen to this audio interview I did with Heather Parker.  In this interview I made her reveal some of her planning secrets. : )

Do You Have What It Takes?

Do you have what it takes to be different?

Many of us give up in life…..we work a job we do not like, we gain weight and accept that it is normal, we live life just like everyone else. But the truth is you are great, but as soon as someone sticks a finger in your face and tells you that you are no good …. everything changes. Then you start looking for something to blame like…. I have to work this job that I do not like to support my family, I do not have time, or I can not afford it. The sad thing is in the end you will always regret the choices you make. But when we listen to our gut and do as we want to do, we become great.

Do you have what it takes? No matter how many road blocks you hit, are you willing to break through them or are you ready to give up. If you want to have what it takes, then you must keep moving forward.
